The maze-racing movie The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, which is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk, is set to star a black female star in the lead role.
The Maze Runner will be released on September 26, 2018.
Director Roland Emmerich is said to have been inspired by the novel, which deals with a white woman who gets stranded in a maze with three white people who want to kill her for stealing the money she’s trying to earn.
“The MazeRunner is about a white man, who is trapped in a labyrinth.
It’s a beautiful novel that speaks to me,” Emmerick said.
“I just want to make a movie that has some black people in it and some white people in there.”
The Maze-Racing Movie is expected to be released in 2019.
Emmericich is known for his work with Emmeritz and Warner Bros. Pictures’ other film, The Jungle Book, which stars Scarlett Johansson.
